About me

My story

I'm Noah Vinther, a professional windsurfer and coach from Aarhus, Denmark. This is how a kid who only wanted to play football ended up chasing a world title on the water.

Who am I?

I was born on 14 January 2004 and grew up about 20 kilometers north of Aarhus. As a kid, football was my whole world. I played every day, and all I wanted was to become a footballer.

My dad used to windsurf in the waves on the west coast of Denmark. But the drive from east to west is a long one, so when I was born, he had to prioritize. The family came first, and his gear ended up in the attic.

Ten meters that changed everything

In 2016 we went on a family holiday to Lake Garda in Italy. I saw the windsurfers out on the lake and wanted to try it right away. I loved it from the very first moment. Only later did I find out that my dad had done the same thing for years.

When we came home, I talked him into getting his old gear down from the attic, and we drove to Ebeltoft. It wasn't the easiest start. His board and sail were made for waves, not for someone learning, and the wind was strong. But my dad held the sail up, helped me onto the board, and suddenly I was flying across the water. It only lasted about ten meters, but they were the best ten meters of my life.

After that day I joined Aarhus Windsurf Club, and the next couple of years were all about learning and spending as much time on the water as I could.

Beaten, but hooked

For the first few years I did both windsurfing and football. But the more time I spent on the water, the clearer it became. Windsurfing won, I stopped playing football, and since then the water has been my place.

My first competition was the IFCA World Championships in Hvide Sande in 2018. I was the smallest one there, racing against grown-ups, and I finished near the very back. But I was proud just to be there, and it only made me hungry for more. I wanted to find out how good I could become.

2021–24

School first, windsurfing on my mind

From 2021 to 2024 I went to high school, where I studied technology and design. School came first, but windsurfing was always on my mind. Whenever I could, I made it part of my school projects, and every free hour went to the water. I still traveled to competitions, but I couldn't give it everything yet.

Then, in 2024, I finished school. From that day on, windsurfing got all my time.

All in

Today I'm in my third year as a full-time professional windsurfer. I race on the PWA World Tour against the best in the world, I'm building my own brand, and I coach other riders, so I can pass on what I've learned along the way.

I'm a team rider for PATRIK, one of the biggest brands in the sport. Together with the owner, Patrik, I help develop foils, boards and sails. That R&D work is a big part of my everyday life.

And I still love it just as much as I did on those first ten meters in Ebeltoft.

The next chapter

The world title.

My goal is to become PWA World Champion in foil slalom. See my plan to get there.
